I have been working with the talented bespoke furniture creators at Elite Interiors for quite a few years now and so I was obviously more than happy to help them photograph their new range of furniture earlier this year. Normally the furniture is brought into my studio to be photographed, this time however I went to their bustling factory with my portable backdrop and studio equipment to shoot on site. Who wouldn’t want any of these amazing pieces of furniture in their home?
Mimosa Mining...
Platinum mining giant Mimosa Mining recently commissioned me to help update their marketing images database. The brief was to get engaging images of their staff and operations to be used on all their marketing platforms. This required me to be on site for 3 days of hectic shooting that spanned the mining operations both above and below ground, their CSR projects in the surrounding communities as well as staff and aerial images.
Mimosa are platinum miners and so the bulk of their operations are underground, so I spent a fair amount of time way below the earth surface capturing all the activity. I think the results below do both the staff and the operations justice?
Being a large mine there is also a lot of activity and infrastructure above ground and the following day was spent capturing this variety above ground. Check out the results below.
Mimosa prides itself on being a modern, responsible mining operation and hence has a established and far reaching CSR projects that extend from their immediate community to all corners of Zimbabwe. I spent a day in the Mimosa community and quite a few days travelling the country capturing their amazing work in schools, hospitals, clinics and vocational training centres. Check out some of the inspiring images below.
Modern interiors with Rainbow Tourism...
I am lucky enough to do a lot of work with one of Zimbabwe’s eminent tourism operators Rainbow Tourism Group and I recently spent a morning photographing their new room renovations at one of their leading city hotels. Which one is your favourite design?
Much tummy rumbling at Mulberry Restaurant...
Food photography shoots are always both a delight and incredibly frustrating, only because my stomach never stops grumbling at the sight of all the delicious plates of food! There was no exception at a recent shoot with Mulberry Restaurant where the hunger pangs went into overdrive! Can you honestly say you are not salivating when you look at the delicious results below?!
Burnt Earth Designs...
I had such a fun time with Burnt Earth Designs recently! They manufacture bespoke clay mosaics in Harare. The sheer creativity and devotion that goes into each ceramic piece is amazing, and the results are breathtaking! I was lucky enough to get to photograph a variety of Burnt Earth installations recently, and you can see for yourself how stunning they are below.
Now these amazing installations would not be possible without being able to implement that creative vision in the workshop. Each piece is hand made from scratch by a small, talented team in their Harare worksop.
Possibly even more impressive than the team at the workshop is the team at the studio who make the ceramic pots, cups and cutlery using a potters wheel. The skill, practice and patience required to create the beautiful results is a pleasure to watch!
Zimbabwe's Pharmaceutical leaders...
A few months ago I was asked by Pharmanova, one of Zimbabwe’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers to create some images for their website and marketing materials. The brief included shots of the manufacturing and packaging process, the quality control aspect in the lab as well as staff working and some of their products in a retail space. Pharmanova run their operations to a world class standard and so the images I created had to showcase that to the best of their ability. I feel I did Pharmanova justice!
Electrosales Chiredzi
I have been working closely with Electrosales Hardware this year and was recently tasked with photographing their branch in Chiredzi for their website and marketing activities. The brief was to capture general shots of the store as well as staff doing their thing, and I think the pictures speak for themselves!
Power to the Shoe
I bought a new pair of shoes recently, and of course being the diehard photographer that I am I couldn’t miss the opportunity to photograph the shoes in my studio! I wanted to show off the great detail on the bottom of the shoes and so used some raking light from quite an acute angle to emphasise the shape and texture. Once I was happy with the lighting on the shoe I shot the shoe on black and then used a variety of gels on the background to create a pop of colour. Which one is your favourite?
Zimkings
Zimkings is a large FMCG marketing company in Harare and they asked me recently to help create some engaging images of their staff, warehouse operations and products for their website and marketing purposes.
Soapy studio shoot...
I am very grateful to the Willowton group for allowing me the opportunity to have so much fun in the studio with such a common household item! Who knew that bars of soap could be such fun to shoot? Throw in a few pieces of coloured paper and the game changes completly! Which one is your favourite?
