As a commercial photographer, there is nothing quite like looking back on a long-term partnership that has grown over the years. I am thrilled to share a look into my latest work capturing images for the Zimplats 2025 Integrated Annual Report.
Working alongside Zimplats—Zimbabwe’s largest mining group and a member of the Implats Group—is always an immense privilege. Having had the pleasure of photographing their operations, people, and community projects for around 10 years now, each project brings a fresh perspective on how dynamic, large-scale industrial spaces can be transformed into compelling visual stories.
Capturing the Scale of Zimbabwe’s Mining Leader
Photographing for an industry giant comes with unique creative and technical challenges. From underground mining environments and massive metallurgical facilities to clean-energy initiatives and community outreach, the goal is always to balance scale with detail.
In this year's annual report, my focus was on documenting some of their landmark infrastructure developments and daily operational excellence:
Major Infrastructure Projects: Capturing the sheer industrial footprint of the newly commissioned 38MW Smelter Expansion at the Selous Metallurgical Complex (SMC).
Local Enterprise Development (LED): Documenting local community businesses integrated into the supply chain, from local engineering and PPE manufacturers to community-based mining enterprises.
Healthcare Infrastructure & Public Health: Visualizing key community health investments, including regional hospital refurbishments, mobile health initiatives, and albinism awareness and support programs.
Education & Skills Development: Highlighting classroom construction, school upgrades, and vocational training initiatives aimed at empowering local youth across operational districts.
The Heart of the Operation: Highlighting the dedication, safety culture, and focus of the people who keep the underground and surface operations moving seamlessly day after day.
Maintaining High Quality, Year After Year
When you partner with a leading corporation for a decade, maintaining an uncompromising level of quality isn’t just a target—it’s the standard. Delivering consistent, crisp, and high-impact visual content requires careful planning, the right lighting and lens configurations, and a deep understanding of the client's visual identity.
Visual storytelling in an annual report plays a critical role in communicating value to global stakeholders, showing not just what a company does, but how responsibly and efficiently they operate. Producing imagery that reflects that standard of excellence year in and year out is what makes this work so rewarding.
